The Four-Ball-Tester (VKA) (DIN 51350) from HANSA PRESS  German Version

Device for the testing of lubricants under extreme loads and speeds, according to international test specifications, such as, e.g.

ASTM-D 2596, ASTM-D 2783, ASTM-D 2266, ASTM-D 4172, ASTM-D 5183, DIN 51350, Parts 1-6, CEC L45-A-99, IP 239, as well as VW test specifications PV1437, PV1444, PV1454, etc.

Brief description of the process:

The lubricant is tested in a four-ball device, consisting of a rotating ball (rolling ball), that glides under selectable loads (test forces) on three of the same balls (fixed balls).  The test force is gradually increased, until welding of the four-ball system (lower diagram) occurs.

In addition, numerous trials with special adapters are possible.

The VKA is frequently used in the lubricant industry and is employed there routinely for product development and quality control.

The VKA from HANSA PRESS is the VKA, on which the most applicable adaptations and test specifications have been developed for over 60 years.

The four-ball device is outstanding due to its technically clear concept and is characterised by the following advantages:

  • Inexpensive and highly precise testing using standardised chromium-steel balls as the test objects.
  • Reproducibility of the trials is excellent due to the high level of production precision of the device as well as the standardised precision test objects.
  • For a complete series of tests, only small quantities of the lubricant are required.
  • The clearly arranged test system permits fast and safe working.
  • The control and monitoring unit ensures maximum safety of the device.
  • Brief trial period.During a short-term trial, the actual test run lasts a maximum of 1 Minute.
